Doctors

Dr Ivan Hanney
MBChB, DRCOG, DCH, MRCGP
Ivan qualified in University College Dublin in 1979. He did hospital jobs in Wakefield and Pontefract prior to joining general practice in Ackworth in 1983. Ivan prefers the term “family doctor” to that of “general practitioner” as he feels that the ability to see successive generations of the same families through their various health crises as the biggest buzz of the job. Clinically he has an interest in respiratory medicine and has worked in the Baby Clinic since he joined the practice.
Ivan is married to Ros who comes from Pontefract and was a nurse and midwife in Wakefield in Pontefract respectively. She stopped work until their two sons, David and Patrick, were no longer young children and is presently deputy head teacher in a junior school not far from Ackworth. When not working Ivan’s interests are fly-fishing, rugby union and fine wine, not necessarily in that order. While his normal home is within the practice boundaries his spiritual home is definitely on the River Ure just beyond Masham in North Yorkshire. When the time comes that he can fish the morning rise, watch the Irish rugby team in the afternoon and celebrate their victory with a bottle of La Romanee-Conti that evening, he will know that he has finally reached heaven.
